As we bid a fond farewell to 2012, with its many memories and special moments, we thought to share with you our 10 most-read blog posts published this year. Not only do these article provide an enjoyable look-back at 2012, they also provide an overview of some interesting skilled nursing-related topics that we'll continue to cover in 2013.
Today we’ll conclude our series on common questions that pop up as visitors tour The Maplewood in search of care options. This post will focus on topics that rehabilitation care patients bring up during their tours. As with parts one and two of our long-term care tour series, I chatted with Lisa Davies, Director of Social Work Services.
Over the past 7 years Maplewood has built a fine reputation for helping those needing rehabilitation services following a hospital stay. In addition to unexpected post surgical situations we have become specialized in elective surgical cases where patients are recovering from knee and hip replacements. These stays are generally covered under Medicare or by a provider like Excellus or MVP who substitute for Medicare in some cases. Maplewood contracts directly with these organizations for the care of the subscriber. This is an important point in that we are often able to advocate for our Patients by having direct access to the insurer. Additionally, it is your MD that generally influences your need for continued rehabilitation or coverage in the first place.
