Making progress on Maple Bay Café's new awning

Each year brings the launch of new projects at The Maplewood. We're always looking at innovative and exciting ways to continuously improve the quality of life for our residents and families.

We're kicking off the warmer months with the addition of a beautiful awning for Maple Bay Café. The protective covering will shade our residents and guests while still allowing those wonderful Rochester spring and summer breezes to pass through. The combination of elements creates the welcoming and relaxed Maple Bay atmosphere that we've all grown to love since its grand opening.

Photo of Joan Keenan, Registered DietitianDiet and nutrition is a topic that’s on all our minds. And for many of us it’s an especially important topic as we help plan nutrition for our elderly loved ones. Knowing this, we set about to provide some useful information about diet and nutrition by featuring Registered Dietitian Joan Keenan in our series of helpful audio podcasts. You can hear our chat by visiting the Podcast page in our Media Room. In the podcast Joan provides an overview of diet and nutrition at Maplewood Nursing & Rehabilitation, dispels some old myths, and even provides some surprises.

Joan is a Registered Dietitian and provides Consulting Dietitian services at long-term care facilities. Joan has served the residents at The Maplewood since 1986. She holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Dietetics from Oneonta State College, and has completed her three-year work experience training at University of Rochester Medical Center. By working closely with the dining services team Joan assesses nutritional adequacy for each resident. From her assessments Joan creates the nutritional plan of care. This resident-focused approach to meal planning features variety, which is key to good nutrition.

“Hey, check this out.” I recognize Dining Service Director Mike Fall’s voice behind me as I set up my camera in preparation for photographing our first picnic of the Summer season. Swinging around, I see Mike holding up a curious electronic gadget with a big grin on his face.

Welcome Home

Photo of bottleIt's Friday! And as residents and their guests know, that means another delightful Welcome Home reception.

The Maplewood's Welcome Home receptions are held every Thursday and Friday at 4:30pm. These special gatherings offer friends and family of The Maplewood's residents a chance to catch up with each other and taste some of the offerings from Happenings Restaurant and Danny's Grill.

Tonight, we will be featuring Ice Cream Sundaes topped with Chocolais, a fine chocolate-flavored wine imported from Holland.

We're looking forward to another enjoyable edition of Welcome Home!
