Our Director of Social Services Lynn Pierce was very excited about her appearance in our kitchen on Thursday, December 13. Lynn wanted to share a Hanukkah tradition with the Maplewood family by preparing Latkes.
We Gentiles probably know Latkes by their secular name, Potato Pancakes. A large, curious crowd gathered to learn more about Hanukkah and critique Lynn’s cooking ability. I was worried that she set herself up for a fall, declaring “I’m a good cook.”
OK I have to admit, I was a little alarmed. A week before the Thursday, February 22 Great Chili Cook-Off, the sign-up sheet resembled whiteout driving conditions. I couldn’t see any names on the sheet, because there were none! Hastily, I penned mine in slot one and hoped a few more people would pick up my example.
