I’ve worked here for almost ten years, and I love my job. I assist residents in getting to bed, eating dinner or simply keep them company by taking time to sit and talk. It’s very individualized. If someone doesn’t like a meal, I ask them what they’d prefer and get that for them. And even though I know each resident’s nighttime ritual, I’m happy to change it if they want to stay up later and enjoy sitting in the garden on a summer evening. We’re all aware of the resident’s needs, and it makes me feel good to make them comfortable. I like to see them feel better because of something I did, and I love it when a family member tells me I made a difference.
